Development of Ultrafiltration Field Instrumentation/Techniques.  Isolation, Isotopic composition, Radiocarbon of oceanic and hydrothermal UDOM, POM.

UCSC Senior Thesis with the Earth Science Dept.

Using 14C of  inorganic carbon in crustal fluids from drill-holes and seamounts on the Juan de Fuca ridge system to constrain fluid flow rates and paths through porous upper curst. (Jointly advised with Andy Fisher)

The Kid has an Arm.

Ian Voparil, PostDoc

  PhD, Oceanography

Relative sources and cycling of major compound classes in dissolved organic matter in oceanic and crustal fluid DOM.  In particular isolation and multi-isotopic measurement approach ( 14C,13C,15N) of major amino acids and other biochemical classes in different systems.

Ian has recently accepted a position with Shell Oil as a head marine environmental consultant.  (We wish you the best Ian!)
