Extra-Solar Planets Laughlin, Vogt, Woosley, Glatzmaier

UCSC astronomers are responsible for discovering roughly half of all known extra-solar planets. Vogt specializes in high-precision spectrometry of these planets and stars; Laughlin is mainly concerned with the orbital characteristics and evolution of the planets. He is responsible for coordinating the detection of transiting planets by amateur astronomers www.transitsearch.org. Laughlin and Korycansky also recently proposed a method to diminish global warming by moving the Earth away from the Sun.
