  What is NEOCO?
NEOCO as an Ocean Observing System

The Network for Environmental Observations of the Coastal Ocean is an ocean observing system with a network of sites along the coast of California. Ocean observing systems consist of the sensors, personnel and the data management system necessary to obtain, process and distribute the in situ observations in a regular and sustained manner.

Coastal Observation Sites
Coastal observation sites with instrument packages deployed on piers are being established at Bodega Head (UC Davis), Fort Point (UC Berkeley), Santa Cruz (UC Santa Cruz), Santa Barbara (UC Santa Barbara), Santa Monica (UC Los Angeles), Newport Beach (UC Irvine) and La Jolla (UC San Diego).
Data from NEOCO sites are made available in real-time
Data is available to anyone with Internet access, by visiting the Data Products link on this website. Every sample is a 30 second mean. Data points are reported every 4 minutes from each site and are available on the website usually about eight minutes after sampling.

Network Data Transfer

Datastreams are obtained automatically, in real-time, using oceanographic instrumentation at each observation site.
This spatially distributed network transfers data to a relational database management system with web accessibility and reliable archiving.
