Graduate Student Support

NEOCO graduate students are involved in all aspects of the program - at both the site and network level. Currently, we fund three graduate students through NEOCO.

Anna Pfeiffer-Hoyt
Anna Pfeiffer-Hoyt is a first year graduate student UC Santa Cruz under the guidance of Margaret McManus. She is developing a description of the hydrography of Monterey Bay using data from NEOCO (the Network for Environmental Observations of the Coastal Ocean), CIMT (the Center for Integrated Marine Technology) and AOSN II (the Adaptive Ocean Sampling Network II) projects. NEOCO will provide a long-term, spatially limited measurement of temperature, salinity and fluorescence, while CIMT and AOSN II will provide short-term, and spatially expansive (from the nearshore to ~100 km offshore) measurements of temperature, salinity, fluorescence and larval abundance. Through working with investigators in the PISCO project, she plans to relate the mesoscale patterns in hydrography and larval distribution to the recruitment of barnacle larvae.
