Travel:
Air: You can fly into either San Jose (SJC) or San Francisco
(SFO) airports. SJC is closer. You can also fly
into SJC and return from SFO, usually at no additional charge. RT airfares to SFO are currently running around $750
from Europe, and $350 from the east coast.
Airports to Santa Cruz:
There are really just two options.
Option 1:
At least 5-6 of the participants will rent cars. The drivers should
provide me with flight info so that we can arrange for car pools. We should
have car pools arranged the wee before the workshop. All others can take option
2. Directions to Santa Cruz are listed below.
Option 2:
The Santa Cruz Airporter shuttle. From San Francisco, the shuttle fare
is ~$45 (~80 minute trip), and from San Jose the fare is ~$30 (~50 minute
trip). One shuttle company, the SANTA CRUZ AIRPORTER,
serves both airports. You MUST call in advance for reservations (831-423-1214
or 800-497-4997).
Shuttles depart every 2 hours
for Santa Cruz and will take you directly to the hotel (located on West Cliff
Drive near the Municipal Wharf).
FROM SFO: Shuttle departs
at 4, 6, 8, 10 PM
To meet the shuttle, just
exit from the baggage claim area and cross to the median and look for the
blue shuttle signs.
FROM SAN JOSE: Shuttle departs
at 3, 5, 7, 9, 11 PM
Meet the shuttle at the designated
curbside shuttle stops.
Option 3: There is a Santa Cruz limo service ($80) which is cost effective
for 2 or more travelers.
Lodging:
A room block has been allocated
for our group at the Coast Santa Cruz Hotel. All rooms are ocean view. Rates are $104/night single/double occupancy, so for those who are on a tight budget, you might
elect to double-up with one of the other participants. You must make your
own reservations. Contact the Reservations Department at (831) 426-4330 or
ressantacruz@coasthotelsusa.com.
Be sure to request the group rate for BIOPE or reference BIOPE in ÔSubjectÕ
in an E-Mail. The Coast Santa Cruz Hotel agrees
to hold the room block until Nov.19, 2004. At
that time any unsold rooms will be released to the Hotel for general sale. Reservations received after the cut-off date will
be on a space and rate available basis only.
Any cancellations
within 48 hours from the date of arrival will be billed for one
(1) nightÕs room and tax

Reimbursements: Expenses will be reimbursed
to the amount allotted following the meeting via submission of travel
reports, so keep your receipts!
Meeting Logistics:
We will be meeting on the
10th in either the 12 Winds Conference room at the hotel. On the
11thwe will meet in the Alumni Room in the University Center. We will car pool from the hotel to campus on the 11th.

FOR DRIVERS:
DIRECTIONS TO SANTA CRUZ
FROM SAN FRANCISCO AIRPORT.
Follow the exit signs from
the airport car rental area to Highway 101 south (toward San Jose). Take 101
South to 85 South. Take 85 south to 17 South. 17
South brings you into Santa Cruz. Take the Half Moon Bay exit (Highway
1 North) which will put you on to Mission Street. Take 1 North (a.k.a. Mission
St.) to Bay Street (the 6th traffic light). Turn
Left onto Bay Street, stay on Bay until it ends, turn left on to West Cliff
Drive, and the West Coast Santa Cruz Hotel will be just to the right. Entire
trip should take about 85 minutes if traffic is light, longer during rush
hour.
DIRECTIONS TO SANTA CRUZ
FROM SAN JOSE AIRPORT
Santa Cruz is approximately 45 minutes from the San Jose Airport. From the Airport, take Highway 880 south to 17 South. Highway 17 South will take you to Santa Cruz. Take the Half Moon Bay exit (Highway 1 North) which will put you on to Mission Street. Take 1 North (a.k.a. Mission St.) to Bay Street (the 6th traffic light). Turn Left onto Bay Street, remain on Bay until it ends, turn left on West Cliff Drive, and the Coast Santa Cruz Hotel will be just to the right.
